Open your Business Profile and select Edit menu to add sections, items, prices and photos. Google says the menu editor is available to food and drink businesses. You can also add a menu link under Contact or upload photos of your printed menu. Whichever you use, keep prices current, because customers read them before they visit.
Three ways Google shows a menu
- Menu items: sections and dishes with names, descriptions, prices and photos, built in the menu editor.
- Menu link: the web address of a menu on your own website or ordering page.
- Menu photos: pictures or PDFs of your printed menu, uploaded through Photos of menu.
Menu items are the most useful, because customers can read them without opening a file. A link works well when your website menu is kept up to date.
Add items in the menu editor
- Open your Business Profile.
- Select Edit menu.
- To start a section, select Add menu section, enter the section name and its first item, then save.
- To add a dish, select Add menu item, enter the name, description, price and photo, then save.
- To remove an item or a section, open it, select Delete at the bottom and confirm. Deleting a section removes every item in it.
Section: Breakfast. Item: Masala omelette. Description: Three eggs with onion, green chilli and coriander, served with buttered toast. Price: 180.
Add a menu link or menu photos
- Open your Business Profile and select Edit profile.
- Go to Business information, then Contact.
- Under Menu link, enter your menu's web address and save.
For a printed menu, use the Photos of menu option to upload photos or PDFs. Google also offers an experimental option that uses AI to turn a photo or PDF into menu items, which requires agreeing to Google's generative AI terms. Check every item and price it produces before you rely on it.
Common problems
- Why can't I find Edit menu?
- Google says the menu editor is for food and drink businesses, so check that your categories describe a restaurant, cafe or similar. Google also says that if your menu is provided through the Business Profile API, you may not have the editor in Business Profile or Search.
- I updated my menu, but Google still shows the old one.
- Google says changes can take 24 to 48 hours to display. If Google has found more than one menu source for your business, the Menu tab shows each option and when it was last updated, so check which source is showing.
- Google shows menu items I never added.
- Google says it may transcribe menu data from your business website, and customers can add photos and names of dishes. Dish names you add take precedence over names added by customers, so fix your website menu and add your own dish names.
- A customer added a dish we don't serve.
- In the Google Maps app, open your restaurant and tap Menu. Google lets owners mark a dish as incorrect or as not served at their location.
What Reach can do for your menu
Reach does not edit Google's menu items, and it cannot upload menu or food photos, because Google only accepts those through its own editors. The Reach website does not have a menu section either.
In the Contact section of your profile in Reach, you can add a Menu action link, and Reach publishes it to Google as your menu link. Use posts to tell customers about a new dish or a seasonal menu.
