If the same business is moving to a new address, edit the address on the profile you already have. Do not create a new one. Google says that when you move and keep the same business name, it transfers your reviews automatically, and that you must verify your business again after the move.
Edit the address or start a new profile?
Google's rule is plain: do not create a new Business Profile because of a change in physical location. One business moving to one new place keeps one profile and its reviews.
A change of identity is different. Google says that if your business changes its name and the change does not qualify as a rebrand, it counts as a new business: you mark the existing profile as closed and create a new one with the new name.
How to change the address
- Sign in with the Google account that manages the profile and open your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps.
- Select Edit profile, then Location.
- Next to Business location, select edit and enter the full street address, including any unit, suite or floor number.
- If Google cannot find the address, place the pin on the map yourself.
- Select Save, then complete verification when Google asks for it.
Timing around move day
Change the address when customers can actually be served at the new place. Google reviews the edit and you will need to verify again, so leave room for both.
- Before the move: if you close for a few days while you pack and unpack, set special hours for those dates rather than marking the business closed.
- On move day: edit the address and start verification straight away.
- After the move: open your profile on Maps from a phone and check the pin, directions and hours.
What to update elsewhere
Customers and other sites still carry the old address. Work through the places that repeat it:
- Your website's contact page, footer and any location pages.
- Other directories, maps apps and review sites.
- Social profiles, booking pages and messaging profiles.
- Invoices, email signatures, printed menus, flyers and signage.
Common problems
- A second profile has appeared at my new or old address. What now?
- That is a duplicate. Keep the verified profile that holds your reviews and deal with the other one rather than running both. Our guide to duplicate profiles covers the options.
- My reviews did not follow me to the new address.
- Google says reviews transfer automatically when you move and keep the same name, but not for some categories. If you ended up with two verified profiles because of the move, Google says you can contact it to ask for the reviews to be transferred.
- Google is asking me to verify again. Did I do something wrong?
- No. Google says a verified business that moves to a new address must verify again. Complete the method Google offers for the new address.
- My new address still shows as pending.
- Google reviews edits before they go live and says this can take up to 30 days. Check the edit status in your profile before submitting the same change again.
After the move
Reach shows your address on the profile page but does not change it, because Google ties the address to verification. Make the move in Google first, then use Reach to check that your hours, phone numbers and service areas fit the new setup.
