Google gives you three options. Google says to use special hours if you are closed for 7 days or less, and Temporarily closed if you are closed for more than 7 days, for the off-season or indefinitely. Permanently closed is only for a business that has stopped for good.
Which status to use
- Special hours: a holiday, a refit or a few days off, 7 days or less.
- Temporarily closed: more than 7 days, a seasonal closure or an open-ended pause.
- Permanently closed: the business has stopped trading.
Google says your profile then shows as Temporarily closed or Permanently closed on Google Maps and Search.
Mark your business closed
- Sign in and open your Business Profile on Google Search or Maps.
- Select Edit profile, then Hours.
- Next to Hours, select Edit, then choose Temporarily closed or Permanently closed.
- Select Save.
Reopen your business
- Open your Business Profile and select Edit profile, then Hours.
- In the Business hours section, select edit and choose Open with main hours.
- Tick each day you open and set the hours.
- Select Save.
Common problems
- Google shows my business as closed, but we are open.
- Check the hours in your profile first. Someone with access may have set a status, or Google may have changed it: Google says it may update a profile when it gets reports that the info isn't accurate. Reopen with the steps above and make sure your website shows the same hours.
- Does Temporarily closed affect how I show up?
- Google says that for broad searches, temporarily closed businesses can appear after open ones. Use it only when you really are closed for more than 7 days.
- I manage several locations and need to reopen them all.
- Google says you can select the locations in Business Profile Manager, then choose Actions, Open and confirm with Mark as open.
- Will my reviews disappear if I close?
- No. Google says reviews remain on the profile whether you close for a while or permanently.
Hours in Reach
Reach's profile page edits your regular weekly hours and special dates, where each date can be closed all day or have its own hours. Use it for short closures and holidays. Reach does not set Temporarily closed or Permanently closed; do that in Google.
