How it works
The checkup looks at your listing the way a customer and Google Maps see it, then tells you what to fix first.
- Find your business on Google Maps in the search box above.
- Sign in with your email or Google. It is free, and it keeps each checkup tied to a real person.
- Watch the checks run: your listing is read, Google Maps is searched from nine points around you, and the businesses that show up first are compared with yours.
- Read your score, the headline and your fixes, then fix them in Reach with the listing already open.
What you give and what you get
You give one thing: the Google listing to check.
You get a score out of 100 with its breakdown, one headline finding, your positions on a 3×3 Google Maps grid for “[your main category] near me”, a comparison with the top 3 businesses for that search, and a list of fixes ordered by the points they add.
Method and limits
The score adds up points from the checks below. Only data we could see is scored: a check we could not see is left out, so missing data never lowers the score, and the result says how many checks it was based on.
| Check | Rule | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Profile: 55 points | ||
| Primary category | Shown on the listing | 8 |
| More categories | At least one besides the primary | 4 |
| Description | At least 50 characters | 8 |
| Opening hours | Shown on the listing | 8 |
| Phone number | Shown on the listing | 6 |
| Website | Shown on the listing | 6 |
| Photos | 10 or more for full points, 1 to 9 for part | 7 |
| Attributes | At least one shown | 3 |
| Claimed by the owner | Listing shows as claimed | 5 |
| Reviews and rating: 25 points | ||
| Star rating | 4.5 or higher for full points, 3.5 or higher for part | 10 |
| Number of reviews | 50 or more for full points, 1 or more for part | 10 |
| Share of 1 and 2 star reviews | 10% or less for full points, 20% or less for part | 5 |
| Not in the free checkup. Scored in Reach after the owner connects Google: 20 points | ||
| Reviews with a reply | 90% or more for full points, 50% or more for part | 10 |
| Latest Google post | Within 7 days for full points, 30 days for part | 10 |
The Maps grid is shown next to the score, never inside it. It is one search at one time from nine points, and Google ranks by relevance, distance and prominence, so it is a reading, not a promised position.
The checkup reads what your public listing shows. Replies to reviews and posts need your Google connection, so the free checkup leaves them out.
How we check thisPrivacy
We keep your score, its breakdown and your listing’s Google Place ID, so you can come back to your result.
Business names, ratings and other details from Google are read live when you look at a result and are not kept in the saved result.
The checkup runs in a free Reach account. You can delete the account and its data at any time from Reach.
Questions
- Is the profile checkup free?
- Yes. You sign in with your email or Google so each checkup belongs to a real person, and there is no card or trial.
- Is this my Google score?
- No. It is Reach’s own checkup score from a published method. Google does not publish a score for Business Profiles, and no score can promise a ranking.
- Why do I need to sign in?
- Each checkup runs real searches on Google Maps, which costs us money. Signing in keeps it to one person and lets you come back to your result.
- What is the Maps grid?
- We search “[your main category] near me” on Google Maps from nine points around your listing and note where you show up at each one. The top 3 matter because Maps shows three businesses before “More places”.
- Who are the rivals in the comparison?
- The first businesses Google Maps showed for the same search. We compare only what their public listings showed, and we do not rate or judge them.
- Why are replies and posts not in my score?
- Your public listing does not show them reliably. After you connect Google in Reach, Reach can read them and include them.
- Can I check many locations?
- The free checkup covers one listing. Brands with many locations use Locus Intelligence, which audits every location together.
