How it works
- Pick the country your business is in. Google's category list differs by country.
- Type what your business is in plain words, such as “dentist” or “bakery”.
- Select the most specific category that describes the whole business, then check where Google offers it and whether it comes with predefined services.
Google asks you to select a primary category that best describes your business. When no specific category fits, choose a general one: you cannot create your own.
Questions
- Where does this category list come from?
- From Google's own Business Profile category list, which Reach copies from Google on a schedule. The date under the search box shows when the list for that country was last copied.
- Why can't I find my category?
- Google's list is fixed and differs by country. Try a broader word, such as “restaurant” instead of “thali restaurant”, and check that the right country is selected.
- Will the right category move me up in search?
- Categories tell Google and customers what your business is. This tool helps you pick an accurate one; it does not predict or promise any ranking.
