What does this GMB checker look at?

Eight parts of a Google Business Profile, each read from public data the way a customer and Google Maps see it.

  • Where it shows on Maps

The position for “[main category] near me”, searched from the business’s own location.

  • The top 3 nearby

Rating, reviews, photos, categories, website, hours and claim status against the first three businesses.

  • Reviews and replies

Reply rate in the newest 50 reviews, unanswered 1 to 3 star reviews and how often new ones arrive.

  • Profile checklist

Categories, description, hours, phone, website, photos and attributes, each scored.

  • Holiday hours

The public holidays coming up where the business is, so special hours get set in time.

  • Website match

Whether the website shows the same name, address and phone as the listing.

  • Policy risks

Patterns Google’s guidelines warn about, such as extra keywords in the name or a phone number in the description.

  • Google posts

Post dates are not public, so the free audit says so. Reach checks them once Google is connected.

How is the Google Business Profile score worked out?

Google publishes no score for Business Profiles, so this one is Reach’s own. It rates the profile out of 100 across a few aspects: how complete the profile is, its reviews and rating, and how its reviews are looked after.

Only data the audit could read is scored. A check it could not read is left out, so missing data never drags the score down.

How does the Google Maps audit work?

The audit takes the listing’s primary category, adds “near me” and searches Google Maps from the business’s own pin, the way a customer standing nearby would.

It reads the first 20 results, notes the listing’s position, and compares it with the first three other businesses on what their public listings show.

This is a best case: customers search from across the area, and results shift with distance and time. After sign-up, Reach tracks the same search from nine points around the business.

Sample report

What does a GMB audit report look like?

Every report opens with the same five parts. The example on the right is a made-up clinic, labelled as such.

  1. A score out of 100 that says how many of the 15 checks it was based on.
  2. Three problems, one per area, each with the observed number behind it.
  3. The Maps position for the main search and the first three businesses around it.
  4. A side-by-side table against those three, with the biggest gap named.
  5. Reviews, checklist, website match, policy risks and holiday hours, each dated.

Questions about the GMB audit

Yes. The first audit runs without sign-in or a card. The score and the top 3 problems show at once; an email opens the full report and the top-3 comparison.

No. Google publishes no score for Business Profiles. This is Reach’s own profile score, and no score can promise a ranking.

Maps results depend on where the search is made, the time and the person searching. The audit searches once from the business’s own pin, which is close to a best case.

The first three other businesses Google Maps showed for the same search. Only what their public listings show is compared.

Post dates are not in public data. Once the owner connects Google in Reach, posts are checked along with everything else.

That listing did not show the value in its public data. It is never counted as zero.

It scores only what it could read, compares the listing with the actual top 3 from its own location, reads the newest reviews for replies, and never fills a gap with sample data.

“Fix these in Reach” opens a free Reach account with this listing, and its top problems become the first tasks to work through.
