Before you start
You need a Reach account; the Free plan works. Connect your Google Business Profile in Reach so ChatGPT sees your real data. Without it, ChatGPT can read your public listing only.
Set it up
- In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.
- Go back to Apps and click Create.
- Name it Reach, paste the server URL above and choose OAuth as the authentication.
- Sign in with your Reach account when ChatGPT asks, then click Create.
- In a chat, choose Reach from the tools menu, or mention it by name.
On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace
Developer mode can be off for members. Ask a workspace admin to allow it, then follow the steps above. Each member signs in with their own Reach account, so each person sees only what their account can.
Two approvals before a change
ChatGPT asks you to confirm a tool that changes something. Before that, Reach has the assistant show you the exact change and wait for your yes in the chat.
What the Reach sign-in screen shows
After you sign in, Reach asks one question and shows the email you are signed in as and your business:
Allow ChatGPT to use your Reach account?
Then it lists what ChatGPT gets:
- Read your Reach data
- Prepare work in Reach
- Change your Google profile, only after you confirm each change in the chat
It also shows how many Credits your plan has left this month. Choose Allow to connect or Cancel to stop.
You can turn this off at any time in Reach under Settings, AI Connectors.
Two things to ask first
Ask about your business in plain words. ChatGPT picks the Reach tools itself.
What is missing from my Google Business Profile? Fix the easy items after showing me each change.
Write a Google post about this week's offer and show me the exact text before you publish it.
If it does not work
- You cannot find Developer mode: it is on paid ChatGPT plans only, and a workspace admin may have turned it off.
- ChatGPT does not use Reach: choose Reach from the tools menu, or name Reach in your message.
- Sign-in fails when you click Create: check that the URL is exactly the server URL above and OAuth is selected, then try again.
