ChatGPT can't open your Google Business Profile by itself. To read and change it from a chat, add Reach by Locus as an app in ChatGPT. You need a paid ChatGPT plan, Developer mode on the web and a Reach account (the free plan works). Sign in once, then ask in plain words. Every change waits for your approval.
Plain ChatGPT can write a review reply, but you have to copy it and paste it into Google yourself. To read and change your profile from a chat, ChatGPT needs a connector called an MCP server, and that connector holds the Google access. ChatGPT reaches these servers through Developer mode, a web feature of paid plans. Google has no ChatGPT integration of its own; the Gemini, ChatGPT and Claude comparison shows how its Gemini option differs.
What do I need before I start?
- A paid ChatGPT plan. Developer mode is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu, on the web. The free ChatGPT plan can't add Reach.
- Admin approval on team plans. On Business, Enterprise or Edu, a workspace admin may need to allow Developer mode first (connect-ai guide).
- A Reach account. The free plan works. It covers 1 location and gives you 50 credits a month.
- Your Google Business Profile connected in Reach. If you skip this, ChatGPT sees only your public listing (connect-ai guide).
As of October 2026:
| ChatGPT plan | Can you add Reach? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Can you add Reach? No | NotesDeveloper mode needs a paid plan |
| Plus, Pro | Can you add Reach?Yes | NotesSet it up on the web |
| Business, Enterprise, Edu | Can you add Reach?Yes | NotesAn admin may need to allow Developer mode |
How do I connect it?
These steps come from the Reach ChatGPT setup page:
- On ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, then Apps, then Advanced settings. Turn on Developer mode.
- Go back to Apps and click Create.
- Name the app Reach. Paste https://reach.locus-intelligence.com/api/mcp and choose OAuth for authentication.
- Sign in with your Reach account, then click Create.
- In a chat, pick Reach from the tools menu or mention it by name.
You don't need a Google Cloud project or an API key. Generic guides assume you have Google API access, and most owners don't. Reach signs you in with OAuth 2.1 and holds the Google connection for you (Reach MCP page).
Do you use Claude or another assistant? The connect-ai guide has the steps for those.
What can I ask? Six prompts for owners
Reading your profile costs nothing. Changes go to Google only after you approve them.
Read my 20 most recent Google reviews. What do customers praise and what do they complain about most? Give me three things to fix, with one review quote for each.
Reading reviews is free. ChatGPT summarises what it reads and nothing changes on Google.
Draft replies to my 1-star and 2-star reviews from this month. Each reply should apologise once, say what we are changing and invite them to call us. Show me each reply before posting.
Each reply draft costs 2 credits. Reach posts a reply only after you confirm it.
Write a Google post about our Diwali hours and show me the text before you publish.
Reach publishes the post after you approve the text.
Change Sunday hours to 10 am to 2 pm for the next month.
Reach edits your profile after you approve the change.
Who sent a booking request or enquiry this week? List them with what each one asked for.
Reading leads and bookings is free. Phone numbers are shown as the last 4 digits only.
Start tracking "root canal Pune" and "dentist near me", then tell me where I rank today and who is ahead of me.
Each tracked search counts against your plan's keyword limit: 2 on Free, 20 on Starter and 30 on Business. Reading the ranks afterwards is free.
What happens when ChatGPT wants to change something?
A change has to pass two approvals before it reaches Google:
- ChatGPT shows a confirmation with the details of the action before it runs a tool that writes.
- Reach shows you the exact change and waits for you to approve it in the chat (Reach ChatGPT page).
Some other limits apply (Reach MCP page):
- Assistants can make up to 20 Google changes per hour for each business. If a prompt gets stuck in a loop, it can't rewrite your profile 200 times.
- ChatGPT gets the same access you have in Reach: the same locations and the same plan limits.
- ChatGPT can't delete posts, restore deleted photos or remove a review reply. It can replace a reply with a new one.
| Step | What you see |
|---|---|
| Your prompt | You ask for a reply to a review |
| ChatGPT | A confirmation card with the details of the action |
| Reach | "This will post the reply below to Google. Approve?" |
| After you approve | "Posted" |
What does it cost?
- ChatGPT: you need a paid plan. See OpenAI's pricing page for the current prices.
- Reach: reading your profile is free. Each review reply draft costs 2 credits.
Reach plans as of October 2026 (Reach MCP page):
| Plan | Locations | Credits per month |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Locations1 | Credits per month50 |
| Starter | Locations2 | Credits per month500 |
| Business | Locations5 | Credits per month5,000 |
On the Free plan, 50 credits pay for 25 review reply drafts a month.
How do I disconnect or block ChatGPT?
In Reach, go to Settings, then AI Connectors. You can block one assistant or all of them. The block starts with the next request (connect-ai guide).
Worked example (illustrative)
Aiman owns Kopi Senja, a cafe in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. He uses ChatGPT Plus.
At 9 am on Monday, he opens one chat and uses prompt 2. Reach finds 2 reviews of 1 or 2 stars with no reply. One is about slow service on Saturday and is written in Malay. Reach drafts both replies, the Malay one in Malay. Aiman edits the Saturday reply to mention the extra barista the cafe now has at weekends. Then he approves both. That costs 4 credits.
Next, he asks for a post about the new pandan latte, in the style of prompt 3. He reads it and approves it.
The routine takes about 10 minutes, and he has used 4 of his 50 free credits.

Reply and post from one chat every week
Replying to reviews and posting an update every Monday is a chore that comes back each week. With Reach in ChatGPT, you do both in one chat and approve every change. You can manage ChatGPT's access in Settings, then AI Connectors. To do the same work outside ChatGPT, open Reviews in Reach.
Connect Reach to ChatGPT and clear this week's unanswered reviews from one chat.
